What is a root canal?

Root canal treatment (Endodontics) is a fantastic procedure which can help you when you need it most. We perform endodontics when the pulp inside your tooth becomes infected through tooth decay or damage as a result of trauma.

This infection could spread through the root canal system, which could eventually lead to an abscess, causing a great deal of discomfort. If root canal treatment is not carried out, the tooth may need to be taken out.

Our highly experienced team is skilled in performing root canal treatment to stop the infection from spreading. We will preserve as much of your tooth as possible. We use specific techniques and advanced equipment, and you will receive a local anesthetic.

The treatment

Please trust us to ensure that the treatment overall will feel no different to having an ordinary filling placed.

The aim of the treatment is to remove all infection from the root canal. The root is then cleaned and filled to prevent any further infection. A temporary filling is put in and the tooth is left to settle. The tooth is checked at a later visit and when all the infection has cleared, the tooth is permanently filled. Root canal treatment is a skilled and time-consuming procedure and most courses of treatment will involve two or more visits.

Working with our team with regular check-ups and great dental hygiene will limit the likelihood of your having to have a root canal.

What do you know about composite bonding?

Composite bonding is a quick and effective way to fix minor cosmetic issues. The composite resin is hardened using UV light as soon as it’s applied. There is no drilling or injections, and can be completed in just one appointment.

Dr Brad Hawkins describes the treatment as "a great, non-invasive way to make a huge change to your smile".

Have you been thinking about composite bonding. Why not book a free consultation to speak to one of the team today. Link is in our bio.

Meet Dr Grace Marks one of our dentists at Together Dental Clapham.

Dr Marks grew up in Chester and when she was 16 did work experience which was the start of her journey to becoming a dentist. She says, “I always had an interest in a medical based career and I ended up spending two weeks in a dental practice for work experience- I loved it! More than my original choice of becoming a Doctor. It still had the science, but it is also a very hands on art. I did art at GCSE and always liked practical tasks like sewing and making things. I grew up on a farm, so I am used to hands-on practical based work.”

Dr Marks studied Pharmacology at Newcastle, and then dentistry at UCLAN, after her foundational training year she went straight into general practice.

She feels that she has great support in Together Dental and gets great help from clinicians within her own practice, including Millie (who has a double special interest). Grace says, “We have great specialists with every expertise you can think of. As well as general dentistry, I am furthering my interest in facial aesthetics and botulinum toxin. Having anatomical knowledge of the face is crucial to natural rejuvenation treatments. We understand the proportions and anatomy of the face, so I would really recommend that if people have non-surgical injections in their face, that they are performed by an experienced doctor/dentist/nurse. I love what I do, and I honestly wouldn’t want to do anything else.”

“I like the way that you treat an entire family. You see a young couple through different stages of their lives; getting married, pregnancy and then with young children. And through all these different stages they have varying dental needs. I have some patients where you see three generations of the family coming through and this for me is really important that I build relationships with my patients.”
